Now in its sixth year, Siempre Flamenco joins the Adrienne Arsht Center and Flamenco Festival Miami 2011 to present the VI Festival of Flamenco Song, Café Cantante. The deepest feeling of flamenco song unites with the intricate fury of dance in a unique concert that will exhilarate and delight both young and old
This year’s festival singers feature Macarena de Jerez, Gabriel de la Tomasa, both rising young stars in Spain, along with the living legend, Mr. Luis Vargas. At 80 plus, he is still singing and is one of the few artists left from his generation. Flamenco guitar accompaniment will be by Siempre Flamenco’s Paco Fonta, and guest guitarist, Jose Cortes, Pansequito hijo. Flamenco dancing by Celia Fonta and Siempre Flamenco Company will round out the festival lineup.
To compliment this year’s festival, there will be several educational events.
The Festival will open on Thursday, February 17th at the CCE with the 1952 movie “Duende and Misterio of Flamenco” by Edger Neville. This historical movie gives an overview of all the flamenco styles. A lecture on the evolution of flamenco in the past fifty years by flamenco journalist Estela Zatania will follow.
A Master Class of Cante Flamenco given by Gabriel de la Tomasa and a Bulerias dance workshop by Macarena de Jerez will be offered on Saturday afternoon.
A special introductory class of flamenco guitar for guitarists will be offered on Tuesday,
Februrary 22.
Festival Flamenco Miami will finish up with 5 nights of Ballet Nacional de España
At the Adrienne Arsht Sanford and Dolores Ziff Opera House.

Hip Hop Flamenco, Beats and Compas is an encounter of old traditions juxtaposed upon an urban landscape. Choreographer and Hip Hop dancer Charles Williams and Flamenco dancer Celia Fonta unite their creative energies and delve into unknown territories. Williams will confront and deal with flamenco compass, its rhythms and melodies while Fonta will look for inspiration in modern hip hop beats. With original music by Flamenco singer and guitarist, Paco Fonta and singer/songwriter Derin Young, Beats and Compas will revolutionize the way you experience either of these musical genres.
